Hello Everyone!
The red head wanna be Journalist here. Just thought I would share a few stories, pics, and thoughts over the last month.
Let's start with Christmas. Kari and I ventured down to the balmy tropical land of Blue Hairs, and Tourists (Florida) to see my parents. Now, I say balmy, but it was hardly balmy...we saw frost on the grass (or as Flordia people refer to it as "snow") two out of the four days we were there. It was great seeing my parents, brother's Tommy, Kevin, niece Thea, and uncles, aunts etc.
Kari and I decided to tell our parent's that we are expecting an addition to our family over the Christmas holiday. Let's start with how we told my parents. So, I thought I would be sly, and purchase a UCF (my alma mater) onesie and a bib, wrap it, and then give that, with a picture of the first ultra sound for my Mom and Dad to open. Kari was all for the plan.
In my mind, I thought this was a sure winner, tear jerker, moment that you will never forget...Mom and Dad jump for joy. Mom opens the package and is just elated once she see's the onsie.
That is what I thought would happen....Ok..now the real story....I hand the package to my Mom and tell my Mom and Dad that he needs to pay attention and they should open it together. Well, my Dad was enamored with his set of Ginsu knives (or some random trinket he recieved for Christmas) while my Mom was opening the package...Karen Karsnick opens the package and grabs the bib, holds it up, and has a very puzzeled look on her face.
I was waiting for something..anything..a tear, a smile......and I got nothin'. I actually glanced across the room at my brother Tommy, and he had this smirk on his face. I figured he knew what was going on. Tommy is a fairly bright guy. My Mom..still deer in head lights. My dad, still enamored by the shineyness of his Ginsu blades, wondering if they really could cut through barbed wire....for the love of God...
Me..well, I said, "Mom, look inside the box"...which my Mom now grabs the onsie..and she HAS to get it now..right? Um, you would be wrong. The next line is the absloute most classic. Karen Karsnick now states "what is it, for the cat"..........long silence.....Dad suddenly picks his head up staring at his reflection in the Ginsu's to see what we got for "the cat"..I said "for the CAT!!!"..and I believe at that point Tommy said..No, Kari is pregnant! Maybe it was me...none the less...I think there was a bit of a dissapointment that Felix the Cat didn't get a new onsie from us from Christmas! I kid...kind of. My Mom and Dad were elated and very happy for us! This just makes for a better story (-2 points for the Florida Karsnick's).
We told Sue and John, Kari's parent's, Christmas eve. We bought a onsie with a 7 on it. John and Sue would be grandparent's for the 7th time in just about 2 1/2 years. Kari wrapped the onsie with the picture of the ultrasound. We gave it to Sue. I swear she must have x-ray vision, because it appeared to me prior to even opening the "package" she was jumping up and down screaming for joy that she was about to be a grandmother...again. Possible she has ESPN. Complete opposite of my mom....(+ 5 points for Sue Lowe). In all seriousness, Sue and John were great and very excited that next Christmas they would have 6 infants running around the house!
Kari and I are very excited and beginning to prepare for the addition to our family. I am leaning towards sticking with the beer theme to name "Baby K." We have Sierra and Summit. I am trying to get Kari to go for Guiness (a boy...of course), and Corona (a girl). The third option would be my third favorite all time Pale Ale. Sweetwater 420. I was debating maybe just naming Baby K, fourtwenty, but thought that may be borderline socially un-accecpatble. Maybe I am crazy.
What else...small stuff to wrap up this post. I woke up this past Sunday and my first thought was "Yippee..Cigar Sunday." What is Cigar Sunday? Well, it is the journey I take around the lake we live just off of, Schmidt Lake, with Sierra and Summit. I love taking the dogs on the lake in the winter. It is about a 2 mile walk around the frozen lake. The dogs love it, and I do too...cause I get to enjoy a fine Cigar, on a cold winter day, on our Sunday walk.
Also, Kari and I are having our Master Bath remodeled, and it should be complete in about 2 weeks. We will post pics. Then comes the mudroom and the nursery.
Hope everyone is doing great! Love ya all. K&P
